[He's done this before, spent the night under the stairs with a beautiful woman and one might accuse him of using it as one of his dating "tricks" but really, Thor just likes the view of the universe from Midgard. Besides, he's been in this funny little town in Maine for over a year now and there's really not many places to take your woman on a date around here that are uh--private.

Not that he's planning on taking her on the beach, nor would he stop it if it came to that. But they get so little time together just the two of them that he wants date night to be as far from the rest of the town as possible. Her parents volunteered for babysitting duty and they should take advantage of it.

Armed with a blanket and a thermos and the natural body heat of a god who runs warmer than mere mortals, Thor has his lady love in his lap and no desire to move.]

Over there is where Asgard is.

[He's pointing at a part in the sky where it could be a dozen little spots. It's a little far his home world.]

[ he could have tricks, Emma isn't sure he'd ever use one on her. they've always been more open with their attraction than the concept of putting the moves on someone requires. when one of them does think of taking the other, it's not long before both of them know it. there's no pretense, no promise of romance when he isn't feeling it. she likes that she never has to worry about using her super power on him; most people aren't as honest as he is.

she fell hard for the Asgardian who still wants to date her, even now when that they have a daughter and a home and a shared life that belongs to both of them. his world is a speck in the stars but she finds herself staring up at it, because as unbelievable as all of this is to her, she still wants to take in every little memory he has of his home. seems like it might be a long time before he sees it again.]

Do you miss Asgard?

[ she's not so insecure that she doesn't want him to be honest with her. he's not going anywhere, Emma knows that. she doesn't want him to feel like he can't talk about his home anymore. it's still a part of him, and a part of their daughter too. ]

[That's what worries him a little, the longer he goes here without any crisis from his superhero job or from home-- it means that something bigger is coming. Something or someone is biding their time and he has so very much to lose this time.

There probably is not much he wouldn't do for his little found family. For Emma or their daughter. For her son or her parents. For her friends that she's given so much of her time for. That's not much different than his feelings for his Warriors Three or his father or even Loki even when he's being a bag of dicks. He's perhaps quicker to defend his girls though, and a touch more violent.

He shrugs after a moment, more nonchalant than he really is.]

I miss it every day. [There's no point in lying to her. He knows about her superpower and she's right. It isn't the sort of person he is. He's over a thousand Earth years old and he doesn't have the time for that sort of nonsense.]

It's my home. It's where I grew up and where I learned how to be a prince and a warrior. Someday I plan to take you and our daughter there for a visit. But my life is where you are.

[ is it wrong if it makes her feel better to hear it? somehow it's a relief to hear confirmation of what she's known for a while now. he misses his world, he might always miss his world, but he won't hide it from her. she might not have existed for thousands of earth years, but her thirty or so earth years have taught her that you're supposed to be honest with the person who you're trying to make a life with.]

I know.

[ it's a soft, satisfied confession. she knows more than she's said. yes, she knows that he misses his home. she knows he misses his father and his friends and his asshole brother. but more than that - ] And I know that you missing Asgard doesn't mean you'd leave us.

[ for most people that would be stating the obvious, for her it's a bigger stride than he might realize. not even her shitty luck and her previous abandonment issues could make her doubt him. so when he does show her his home, even from thousands of miles away, she's grateful that he's talking about it. she'd rather he let her in than feel like he has to keep it all to himself. this a pretty serious thing they have going now.]

I'd like for you to take us home with you someday. I want to meet the people who matter to you.

[quickly:]

Except your brother. Having Gold in the family is bad enough.

[Thor laughs, a low rumble in his chest. He hasn't had much interaction with Mr. Gold but from what he has, he can say-- Loki is worse. Loki is like the love child of Gold and the Evil Queen, which is a strange thing to think about so he tries not to think about it very hard.]

He's adopted anyway.

[He tightens his arms around her for a brief moment, and places a kiss against the side of her hair.]

When she's older. So she'll be able to remember it.

[Because he really isn't supposed to be bringing humans there a lot.]

So that she'll remember it, or so that your father doesn't have to deal with an infant screaming her way through his kingdom?

[ their daughter has a perfect pair of lungs on her. she can't imagine gods who've existed for thousands of years would be especially impressed with her ability to scream when she's unhappy, although she she has to give it to Thor - he knows how to make the baby laugh. sometimes even when he doesn't mean to.]

Is he going to upset that you had a child with a - me?

[ doesn't entirely matter whether it's the human thing that's the issue or the fact that she's her. she just has to wonder whether or not that's going to be an issue. dating a human might be one thing, but they've started a family. it's a little more serious than anyone might have expected.]

Father loves children.

[Which is a diplomatic way of saying that Odin the Allfather doesn't always love what his son gets up to. He's more likely to blame Thor himself for it all by now. After becoming an Avenger and bringing another Earth girl home. It's not an accident or a ploy, it's a pattern. He likes humans. He finds them fascinating and funny and worthy of his protection.

And his love apparently, given what he feels for Emma and their daughter.]

He's accepted I will spend my time on Midgard for the foreseeable future. Asgardians measure time differently. Someday I'll return and take my birthright. There's no rush.

[Or did she forget that he's actually like thirteen hundred years old by Earth standards.]

I know, but you might not return alone.

[ she gets that she is basically seen as some kind of phase every god goes through when they want to get out of their family's realm for a while and sow their wild oats, but this sowing created a daughter that might be as much her father's side as she is Emma's. it's possible that Samantha isn't entirely human, and considering what her father is, Emma wouldn't be all that surprised. a god and a savior created a child together, the real shocker would be if this kid turned out normal.

because after she slept with him, she'd decided that nine-month consequences weren't possible between gods and humans from different realms, so now all bets are off. as it turns out, the two of them are almost too compatible. she's done the math and he knocked her up within the first two weeks that the two of them started having sex. if she didn't care so much about him, she would've killed him for that.]

Sometimes I think she's more you than me.

[ in good ways, to be honest. she's an easy baby and Emma doubts anyone could have said that about her.]

[Well Samantha didn't spend several hours in the cold, Maine forest so any baby would be more easy going than Emma.

He ponders that for a moment, frowning a little and running his hand along the outside of her thigh. It's probably that Samantha isn't entirely human. But he has very little idea of what demi gods actually turn out like. Maybe someone told him once, when he was a child but he was more interested in his training as a warrior than to care about babies.

Asgardians and humans are very compatible. Got it. Filed away for the future.]

If that's true, she'll have the choice to live where she wants. You have my word on that.

[ in classic Emma Swan fashion, there's only one way to deal with falling in love with someone who's basically immortal: by spending no less than ninety-nine percent of the time not dealing with it or considering the future. she doesn't want to think about him looking the same way he does now forty years in the future when she's old and gray. it comes up every once in a while, but they're handling this whole thing one day at a time.

besides, if he knew she was thinking about them being together decades from now, she's not sure she'd ever hear the end of it. some things are better kept to herself.] Well, if I have your word... [ she tends to take him at it, that's how much faith she has in her ridiculous warrior.

she reaches up to guide him closer, lets him feel the curl of a smile against his mouth when she steals a kiss. their daughter can make her home in either world, but the same is true for him. and if he leaves her a little breathless, and if she hesitates for a moment or two, it's to make sure she's ready to say exactly what she's been feeling all this time.]

I know that you'll always protect her. I know how much you love her; us. We love you too, I love you, Thor.
